Fall Book recommendations 🍂

We’re officially in October and the mood is all about dead leaves, movies and plaids, and obviously, reading books. I always loved associate seasons with books and create my TBR according to my mood and the season. For example, my ultimate classics for Fall or Halloween are the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling and Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. At least, they’re mine. But I have few more recs for you!

Classics

First, the classics! They have a lot to give and can be excellent and your next favorite book. Never underestimate a classic! If it last years or even centuries, it has some reasons.

Les diaboliques: Six tales of Decadence, Jules Barbey d’Aurveilly

Six tales of monstrous, horrific, scary women. I studied them at Uni and I found it so cool for Halloween! They’re short, entertaining and perfect for the spooky season.

Macbeth, Shakespeare

Macbeth is all about murder, ambitions, prophecy and… a lot of blood. Lady Macbeth is literally iconic and is all I loved about this book.

The Turn of the Screw, Henry James

Scary story with kids and ghosts in a haunted house. Fun fact: it’s one of the books I read when I discovered my reader’s appetite (a.k.a the moment you realise you want to read all the books in your library because your love for books is new, big and so strong!)

Wuthering Heights, Emily Brontë

A true classic with love, hate, a lot of violence and cruelty. Honestly, I didn’t like it. It was ok, but I was annoyed most of the time. I didn’t love the characters, too childish, extreme and weird. The iconic duo Cathy and Heathcliff are not the characters I want to meet in real life tbh. But, this book is loved by a lot of people and I still recommend it for Fall and Halloween.

Young Adult

Finally, the Young Adult section! I thought about four series that would be perfect to read during October-Fall-Halloween.

Monsters of verity, V,E Schwab

Humans and monsters, a divided city, a character from each side. August and Kate are two characters I will never forget! This duology is very good, my favourite so far by Victoria Schwab even if I only read A darker shades of magic

Six of Crows, Leigh Bardugo

Oh my, these two books own my heart. The Dregs became the classic gang of the YA book community. I can picture very well Keterdam during Fall, with the dregs in the dark alleys… And, excuse me to remind you this… the Netflix adaptation?? the cast?? I’M HAPPY? Ben Barnes as the Darkling? Inej actress looking like Inej?? I’m so ready for it!

The Hunt, Andrew Fukuda

A vampire story that took me off guard! I was so surprised by this story and how interesting it was to discover the roots of vampire legends. The 2nd book was as good and a bit different, but I liked it too!

Fairest, Marissa Meyer

I chose Fairest from The Lunar Chronicles because, it’s one of the first villains I was blown away by the scariest mind. Levana story is my favorite because I was so scared and amazed by her development. It’s perfect for the Halloween night.

I want to read two other books for Fall and they fit very well in this blog post: The Secret History by Donna Tart and Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks.

I hope you enjoyed this post and all these books recommendations. I would love to know which one you already read and which book you’ll recommend for Fall and Halloween. 🍂🎃🍂

Love, Rox 💘
